Dear
Parents,
Students drew a classmate’s name last
week for our gift exchange. There is a
$5 limit on gifts so please keep that in mind as you’re shopping. If you are
unable to afford a gift, simply let me know and I will get one for your child
to give. I don’t want any child to be
excluded. Wrapped gifts may be brought in at any time, but by Dec. 20, the day
of the party. Please have your child
leave the “To:” blank and only sign their name.
Mrs. Kelley, the p.e. teacher, now
has her blog up and running. She asks that you check it periodically to read
about upcoming events and what is happening in p.e. class. Thank you!
Mrs. Wiggins and Mrs. Neverth have
asked that students dress up for the Christmas concert on Dec. 10 at 7:00. Red and green shirts are encouraged to add to
the merriment!

Busy week!
This week students will have a lot of important things:
Tuesday and Wednesday mornings: MEAP test (Reading) Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep the night before and a delicious, healthy breakfast each morning. Also, a big hug and little encouragement can mean a lot, too. Thank you!
Thursday: Chapter 1 Science test over plants

Happy Tuesday!
Students' bedroom maps looked great! If your child hasn't turned his or hers in yet, it is officially late. Please turn it in as soon as possible.
Students do have homework tonight, but I did give them an extra day. It's due Thursday, 9/27. We should be wrapping up Unit 1 at the end of the week, so I would expect a math test toward the beginning of next week and science test toward the end of next week.
Progress reports will be coming home at the end of next week. Doesn't it seem way too early??? Hard to believe we're halfway through the first marking period already.
Have a great week!

First Monday...Check!
Good afternoon!
Today was our first official Monday and the start of our first "normal" week. We should have all our specials (Music on Monday, PE on Wednesday and Friday) at our normal times and try to get into a routine.
Today is also the day your child brought home (or should have brought home) their Monday folders with last week's papers, as well as several important new ones. We need the technology release forms back and student of the week posters turned in within the next week or so. Also, if I was missing a paper from the Third Grade Packet or the money bag, I resent a note regarding that.
I hope your child had a good first week...to be followed by many more!

First Day Jitters!
Well, I hope your child had a marvelous first day. I thought everything went very well and I'm very excited to get to know this group of wonderful third graders. I think we'll have a terrific year.
Students are asked to bring in their favorite book this week, whether it's a current favorite or one from their younger years. Students will have a chance to share them with the class in the coming week(s). Thank you!
If you need to get a hold of me, please remember that email is a great way or calling Mrs. Hill will work, too. Thanks for returning so many of the forms and moneybags so promptly. If you haven't yet, please try to do so this week. Thank you!

What a wonderful year!
I'm writing this tonight with a little bit of excitement, a little bit of pride, and a little bit of sadness. We have had a wonderful year in third grade. We have had some fun times this year, and I hope your child would agree. I am so proud of the hard workers, compassionate classmates, and fourth graders (eeks!) they've become. I am so very sad to see this year end and to know that my time with this group will never be the same, but I'm so very proud of them and confident in their abilities. It's been a great year. Thanks for your kindess and support. I hope you and your family will have a great summer together. Keep reading and practicing those multiplication facts!

Busy Week!
We're looking forward to our field trip this Thursday. Make sure your child is dressed for the weather (it may be cool), wears comfortable shoes, and has a sack lunch. We will be returning at 4:00. If your child is riding with someone other than you or is riding home from Ludington with you, please send a note. A note is coming home in today's Monday folders.
Also, see this week's newsletter for special spelling schedule!

Special speaker from the recycling center on Monday.

Thank you!
Wow! Students made over $70 at our bookstore today! Thank you to the parents who sent in stickers to help with our incentive and a very special thank you to Mrs. Beerens for helping run the bookstore today. Students were very impressed with the money they earned!
Also, Mileage Club will be starting Monday, April 16. Mrs. Kelley needs parent volunteers to help run this program again. If you can help, you would be needed one day a week for six weeks. You would be helping outside from 1:35-2:05 and again from 2:25-2:50. Please contact her if you can help out. Her contact info is: 825-2021 or ckelly@mcbain.org.

It's March already?
Wow! I can't believe this is the last week of February! This school year is flying by!
Students received their progress reports last Friday. The biggest area for improvement overall is completing and handing in homework on time. Students did very well overall on Friday's math assessment. The science test is this Thursday. Remember- no school Friday!

I hope you all enjoyed your day off yesterday!
Students should be preparing for their Unit 5 Math Assessment this Friday. Reviews came home today and the homeworks this week will be to help prepare your child. I also hope to fit in lesson 6.1 on line segments, rays and lines, so this homework may be coming home at some point, probably Friday.

Jump Rope for Heart
Thank you for all your generosity and encouragement as your child collected money for the American Heart Association! Tomorrow the students will hear the results of their efforts. It should be a fun time together.
Next Tuesday afternoon we will be having our reward afternoon and passing out Valentines. The students' reward is long overdue, and since excitement will already be in the air, I thought I would combine them. Thanks again to everyone who is generously providing a snack for the day. It is much appreciated!
I'm hoping to complete 5.10 tomorrow, which will mean students will have homework.

Last week!
This is the last week of the marking period, so I've been working with students to get all their work completed. Most of them are in great shape! Our Native American reports are nearly done and looking good. The dwellings were AMAZING and students really enjoyed showing them off.
Look for report cards next Friday, January 27.
Remember- half days this Thursday and Friday, with an English quiz Thursday and math assessment Friday. Have a terrific week!
PS- Check out www.freerice.com for a fun and productive way to practice multiplication facts!

Wigwams and Longhouses galore!
WOW!! Students did a phenomenal job on their dwellings. Today second graders and other third grade classes will be through to check them out. Students are able to take them home tonight, Thursday, or Friday. We really can't keep them much longer due to a lack of space. I was really impressed with the creativity and quality. I hope you enjoyed doing the project with your child. Most students are making adequate progress on their reports in class. A few may be bringing some work home tonight and/or Friday night to get caught up.
I am planning on students having homework tonight, as I'm hoping to start and finish 4.9 on map scales.
I will not be here tomorrow as I have my monthly ELA meeting at the ISD.
Have a lovely day!
